If you want to turn your wedding reception site from simply to over the top stunning, you'll probably need to take a more enlightening approach to your decor. Lighting a room will always create an elegant atmosphere at a wedding.
Here are some great tips to properly light your wedding reception.
1) Locate a Professional Lighting Company
There are a few ways to locate your wedding lighting expert – the best place to start is with your Wedding Planner; they should always have a professional company they regularly work with. You could also check with the wedding venue for their suggestions. The Internet is also an excellent source for researching lighting professionals - usually they highlight all of their work on their website.
2) Evaluate Your Wedding Site
If your wedding is an evening reception, try to visit the site at least once when it's dark outside. Make sure you inspect the room to see where the fixed lighting is focused. Lights that light up the walls, windows, and ceilings can draw attention away from the center of the room and you would like to have everyone's eyes on the tables, dance floor, and each other.
3) Color is key to great lighting
Consider all colors when using lights. Try to consider different colors then what your wedding palette consists of. If you are planning on using purple throughout your wedding, shy away from purple and mauve lighting - it will be too much from one palette. Think about using colors that will flatter the venue and your guests. The most popular colors for weddings are magenta or a soft rose.
You can also consider taking advantage of the effect color can have on the atmosphere by changing the shades through the course of the night. For example, if your cocktail hour starts around sunset, you can splash your room with golden tones. At dinner, try some soft lighting that will mimic candlelight. When the dancing begins I always like to suggest a more bold approach like strong oranges, pinks even red.
I always recommend my clients to scale back on flowers and candles and to consider adding some fantastic lighting to their wedding reception. Couples will always be remembered for their amazing reception - and the spectacular lighting.
